Our Story

Pitch, Please! was founded in the fall of 2012 by two Northeastern University students who aimed to create a competitive, professional-caliber, women-centered group that challenges the standards of traditional collegiate a cappella.

In their first Spring semester, the group entered their first International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA). They established themselves as fierce competitors, placing 1st in the Quarterfinal round and earning the awards for Outstanding Choreography and Soloist. They went on to place 3rd at Semifinals, winning Outstanding Vocal Percussion, then placed 3rd in the National Wildcard Round. They ended their first competitive season as the 9th place group overall and only all-female group in the Top Ten that season.

Continuing the momentum of their debut year, Pitch, Please! went on to release their first EP Testify! in December of 2013. They competed in the ICCA Northeast Quarterfinal and Semifinal that Spring. Also in the Spring of 2014, they were featured on Pop TV's docu-series Sing It On and appeared on The View alongside John Legend. Later that year they went on to compete in Boston Sings' Scholastic Competition (BOSS), where they placed 2nd and received awards for "Best Soloist" and "Most Powerful Message" for their set about feminism. The group's first full-length album, Aurum, was released in 2016 and was nominated for four Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards. In 2017, Pitch, Please! returned to the BOSS to further the discourse on feminism, where they received the award for "Best Spoken Word".

The following year, in the midst of significant turnover resulting in a young, fresh group, Pitch, Please! took the 2018 ICCA by storm. They placed 3rd at the Northeast Quarterfinal and received the award for "Best Choreography". Building off of this experience, Pitch, Please! competed again the following year, finding great success in the 2019 competition season. They placed 1st in the Quarterfinal round, where they earned the awards for Outstanding Soloist and Outstanding Vocal Percussion. They went on to place 2nd in the Northeast Semifinal, then earned 1st place in the 2019 ICCA National Wildcard Round. That April, Pitch, Please! had the exhilarating experience of competing in the 2019 ICCA Finals in New York City for the first time. Pitch, Please! followed up this groundbreaking competition season by releasing their second full-length album, Obsidian, in December of 2019! Obsidian was nominated for four 2020 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards—the song “Top of the World” was awarded as runner-up for Best Female Collegiate Song and Best Professional Arrangement for a Scholastic Group, and the album won the award for Best Female Collegiate Album.

In 2020, Pitch, Please! started the year strong by earning 1st place in the 2020 ICCA Northeast Quarterfinal, where they were awarded Outstanding Vocal Percussion. On March 6th, Pitch, Please! appeared on the TODAY Show in New York City as a featured performer for their International Women’s Day episode. As they worked to prepare for the Semifinal round of competition, the 2020 ICCA season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pivoting to an exclusively virtual workflow and platform, Pitch, Please! worked to remotely create virtual music videos for each of the songs in their 2020 ICCA set, releasing them throughout the Fall 2020 semester.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continued, Pitch, Please! never slowed their productivity. In the Spring of 2021 they competed in the ICCA completely virtually, creating a professional-grade music video for the first time and doing everything from conceptualizing, audio recording, mixing, and mastering, videography, and video editing completely in-house. They earned 2nd place in the Northeast Quarterfinal where both of their vocal percussionist received the title of Outstanding Vocal Percussion, moving onto the Semifinal round. That same semester, they launched a series of Mini Music Videos, releasing three brand new one-minute arrangements. One of which was “Time Alone

With You”, which was also released as a single on all streaming platforms. In March, they orchestrated a large-scale virtual collaboration with their alumni network to celebrate International Women’s Day, creating a music video for “God Is A Woman” that features both past and present members of the group.

In 2022, Pitch, Please! competed in the ICCA Northeast Quarterfinal in-person again, winning 3rd place overall, Outstanding Soloist, and Outstanding Vocal Percussion. Additionally, they released their newest EP, Indigo, on all streaming platforms. With a newfound passion for video content, they discovered how to balance their in-person performance schedule with the time it takes to produce quality media content. In the fall of 2022, they released each of their 2022 ICCA set songs as a single on all streaming platforms, each with an accompanying music video. This video series spans from individually self-filmed tile-style videos to professional-grade videos produced, filmed, and edited completely in-house to videos with a hired cinematographer. However, all of the creative production work is always done by current members of the group.

Pitch, Please! truly thrived in their 2023 competition season, earning 3rd place overall at ICCA Finals in New York City following their groundbreaking 1st place wins at both Northeast Semifinals and Northeast Quarterfinals. They took home the awards for Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Vocal Percussion, and Outstanding Soloist in the Semifinal and Quarterfinal competitions. This 3rd place international title marks the first time Pitch, Please! has placed at ICCA finals—a truly significant milestone and exhilarating accomplishment for the group.

Today, you can also find Pitch, Please! performing at various venues across New England, competing, and working hard to produce quality media content! They are always looking to fill their group with talented and empowered women seeking a place to perform at a professional level.
